How do pets work?

Pets are people or creatures that join you in combat to help vanquish your enemies.  If a pet is killed, it is unavailable for a certain amount of time until it recovers, after which it can join combat again.

Each type of pet has a kind of territory it likes to appear in.  A werewolf, for example, will appear in the wild, or in industrial ruins or abandoned streets, but won’t join you in a museum or a nightclub.  A gang enforcer will happily appear in alleys or social spots, but likely won’t appear in sewers or catacombs.

You can prioritize which pets appear in combat, in addition to renaming them or disabling them (which you may want to do if you don’t want them killing your adversaries before you have a chance to wipe their minds and make them work for you).

Pets also appear in your lairs, where they will wander around, eat whatever’s in the fridge, and occasionally leave their dirty socks on your coffee table (some pets, not all).  While wandering around your lair they occasionally offer quests that develop their backstories.

Pets can be purchased at various points in the game or acquired from quest lines.  Pets offered during the Kickstarter and from the store generally have lower respawn times and cosmetic differences, but are not more powerful.
